Click to view larger image Click to view larger image Click to view larger image	Inventory No: CHV-288 Year: 1800's Description: A STRIKING LANDSCAPE SCENE IS FEATURED IN THIS GREAT PAINTING. The emphasis is on the center row of trees. Nice subdued colors make this a terrific accent painting for many decors. Although we cannot prove it, we believe that this painting is by the noteworthy Nels Hagerup. The work is signed "Nels," and to us it looks like the "Nels" that Hagerup signed on later works with his full signature. Although better known for his seascapes, we believe that Nels painted this landscape during his time in Oregon in the 1880s-1890s, prior to his move to San Francisco. This outstanding work was purchased from an estate in the 1960s by our consignor, and has been kept carefully ever since. It has the label of a NEW YORK gallery on the back (see detail pic). The original art sits within an ornate original era frame which measures about 16" x 20", and looks excellent! CONDITION: this original looks quite nice. Probably drawn in the late 1880s. We grade the art itself VERY FINE, and the frame FINE / VERY FINE. The frame has a few small chips (see top center and top right) and is separating a bit at a joint (see lower right) but still looks excellent overall. It would look absolutely spectacular on display, and represents an historic era in American Art History. PHOTOS: we are providing four images. The first photo does a good job of showing the entire framed picture. The second shows the back of the painting, including an old gallery label. The third is a close-up of Nels signature (the pic is fuzzy, but the original is nice and clear). The final pic (which may or may not be visible depending on where you see this listing) shows a corner detail where one can see how minor the frame chips are.
