Pflaum Description: THIS COULD BE THE BEST RELIGIOUS CHRISTMAS COVER OF THE GOLDEN AGE. It features a stained glass version of the Nativity, issued on the last school day of the year 1947. Inside, Chuck White stars in a story of his own, but arguably most important from an historic point of view are the many religious features. Stories are featured which include Pope Leo XIII, St. Francis Cabrini, Pope Pius XI, The Holy Innocents, and The Gospel For Christmas Day. In over forty years of avid collecting, we have found this to be one of the rarest of all comic books. This rarity, by the way, is presumably due in part to the fact that, although it was possible to subscribe to TC, most Treasure Chests were distributed only by Catholic nuns in Catholic grade schools. Likewise, this comic's rarity must also be attributable in significant part to the fact that it, like every other TC published from v1 #1 until v3 #19, has a pulp cover (the first "slick cover" was released with TC v3 #20). Additionally, TC v3 #9's extreme rarity must also be attributable in part to the great centerfold, which is titled Christmas In Many Lands. The editor suggested to readers that they should cut it out of the comic. CONDITION: This is unquestionably one of the very best of the few surviving TC v3 #9s. It looks spectacular, even though it is over sixty years old. We have counted all the pages, and it is complete. The activity pages are untouched. Due primarily to a very tiny discoloration inside the front cover (only about one half inch by one sixteenth of an inch), we grade it VERY FINE/NEAR MINT. It has exceptional off-white to white pages and is completely unrestored. By the way, please be advised that our price for this rare book is substantial. We feel our price is justified because this could be the best condition example of the best Christmas cover ever published on a Golden Age comic. SCANS: Because this is an important comic book, we are providing large scans so that everyone can see for themselves just how nice it is. This is a great book! PLEASE NOTE that as we write this, CC's census states that CC has never graded ANY example of this Golden Age comic.
